EPDM Rubber: To Serve Better

What is EPDM Rubber?

This is type of synthetic rubber that use in many applications, it is made from the Ethelene, Propylene, and diene monomer.

Diene monomer is added into EPDM to make it sulfur cross linkable as we all know that the sulfur is only crosslinking with the unsaturation (double bond in chain), Dienes used in the manufacture of EPDM rubbers are ethylidene norbornene (ENB), dicyclopentadiene (DCPD), and vinyl norbornene (VNB).

EPDM rubber is having full saturated polymer chain and due to this it is having better resistance to Heat, Light and Ozone in comparison with other synthetic rubber like NR, Neoprene, SBR.

Chemical Resistance of EPDM.

As the EPDM is polar rubber it is having the chemical resistance to below mentioned chemicals…

·       Hydraulic fluids

·       Ketones

·       Cold water

·       Alkalis

And EPDM rubber is not suitable for the below listed chemical…

·       Hydrocarbons

·       Oils

·       Kerosene

·       Aromatic oils

·       Gasoline

·       Halogenated solvents

Types of EPDM Rubber:

There are two type of EPDM rubber one is sulfur and second is peroxide cured EPDM rubber.

EPDM can be cured with Sulphur and peroxide, depending on the requirements of the application. Compared with Sulphur cured EPDM, peroxide cured EPDM compounds have a better chemical and thermal resistance. Where peroxide cured EPDM can resist a temperature up to 150 C (300 F), Sulphur cured EPDM can only resist temperatures up to 120 C (250 F).

Peroxides improve the heat stability, the modulus, the aging and the compression set of compounds. In addition, the color of the compound will not revert during the cure and has less tendency to bloom. Peroxide cured EPDM is widely used in the rubber industry due to these enhanced properties.

We are providing EPDM Sulfur cure as well as peroxide cure EPDM compounds for various application, you can contact us on www.goodwillpolymers.com

Application (Uses) of EPDM Rubber:

Due to its advantaged EPDM Rubber is widely use in Sealing and gasketing applications, EPDM rubber useful for the membranes, diaphragm, fluid flow, cushioning, gears, shafts, tubes, O-rings, Washers, electrical insulator, door seals of refrigerators and freezers, window seals in vehicle, door seals in vehicle, aluminum door seals, cooling circuit hoses in vehicle, radiator hoses, oil coolers, heaters, EGR valves, EGR coolers, turbo charge engine and many applications, we are at Goodwill Polymers produces high quality EPDM parts as mentioned above for all application.
